002: Boyfriends v. friends

I know, it's been a while. I was so caught up in trying to be oh-so-cool and say quippy things that I just didn't end up blogging.

Today's musing is why the hell girls feel the need to bring their boyfriends/significant other with them everywhere.

My two best friends are in relationships. My one best friend is actually enfianceed, and the other one is in a long-term-ish relationship. So, Enfianceed has been bringing her boyfriend everywhere. She's great and always asks/lets us know that her fiancee will be joining us. Long Term usually does the same thing -- warns slash asks if the beau can come along.

What I don't understand is, why do they have to come along for everything? They say it has something to do with including their boyfriends in their activities. They like spending time with them. They want them (the boyfriends) to spend time with us (the friends) so we can all be happy and merry together. Whatever.

What happened to the independent women I knew? They still are, sure, but why do boyfriends always have to come along. I mean really. I don't bring it up because it will either a) piss them off, b) piss me off or c) some unfortunate combination of both. However, more insight into the situation would be greatly appreciated.

001: The Asian Invasion

While perusing The Sartorialist today, I realized something. It wasn't so much a realization as it was an obvious fact that I subconsciously chose to ignore. And the subconscious subduing was this, Asians (most of them anyway) really seem to have their fashion sense together.

If you click on any of the months of the Sartorialist, there are always a few snaps of incredibly well-put-together Asian men and women. Or if you peruse WhoWhatWear, their MySpace muses often dole out uber-trendy looks (usually seen on an Asian or two). Since these are fashion websites (they only discriminate your clothing choices), it's interesting to see how Asians combine the upscale, downscale and midscale around the globe.

For your information, I'm Asian. I think most of us are pretty on point about things. You're either my sister--who rocks tees and jeans like it's nobody's business, or you're my friend--who's wearing purple jeans, fringed suede booties and a leather jacket to lunch, or you're me--somewhere in between.

We're all shaped differently. That's what makes fashion so interesting. I'm not sure what it is about Asians, but a well-dressed Asian receives accolades in my book while a trendy Asian offends me beyond belief.

With that, I leave you with a few more pictures from around the net that demonstrate the Asian Invasion.

000: The Opener

Hello!

As the title suggests, this blog will be about any subject that I wish to discuss -- mainly because I always have random things to say and often feel the need to put thought to...well, internet.
